In a major update for Overwatch 2 players, all playable heroes will soon be accessible to everyone for free. Previously, unlocking new characters like Mauga required either purchasing the Battle Pass or spending significant gameplay hours.
Blizzard, the developer behind Overwatch, had introduced new heroes behind paywalls, but that’s about to change.
This means players won’t need to buy Battle Passes or starter kits to access characters like Venture, Mauga, and Illari.
However, there’s a small caveat. New players will still need to complete the standard onboarding process, which includes tutorials and unlocking the original hero roster.
Once this introductory phase is completed, all heroes will be unlocked and ready for players to use.
In addition to making all heroes accessible, Blizzard revealed changes to the Mythic Skins system. Previously, these highly coveted skins were exclusive rewards in Battle Passes.
Now, past Mythic Skins will be available in the Mythic Shop, allowing players to purchase and customize them directly. This means players can choose which parts of the skin they want to unlock and upgrade, offering more flexibility in customization.
These changes are part of a broader shift in Overwatch 2, aimed at making the game more accessible and rewarding for players.
