Nordcurrent, a prominent player in the mobile gaming industry, has recently completed the acquisition of Cinemaware’s title portfolio from Starbreeze Entertainment. This strategic move is aimed at expanding Nordcurrent’s game offerings, incorporating well-known titles like Defender of the Crown, Wings, and S.D.I.
The acquisition marks a significant milestone for Nordcurrent’s PC games publishing division, which was established less than three years ago. With a mission to develop a robust business unit for PC and console games, Nordcurrent sees the addition of Cinemaware’s catalog as a crucial step in this journey.
The move not only enhances Nordcurrent’s portfolio but also presents exciting opportunities to feature renowned titles that resonate with gaming enthusiasts.
Expressing enthusiasm about the acquisition, Nordcurrent CEO Victoria Trofimova stated, “Since the inception of our PC games publishing division less than three years ago, we’ve been on a mission to build a robust business unit for PC and console games. Acquiring Cinemaware’s catalog is a crucial step in this journey, providing us with opportunities to enrich our portfolio with well-known titles.”
Cinemaware, with a history dating back to 1986, experienced a period of dormancy from 1991 to 2000 and was revived in 2005. In 2016, Starbreeze Entertainment acquired Cinemaware’s intellectual property rights.
Nordcurrent’s recent acquisition of Cinemaware’s title portfolio comes on the heels of its purchase of Gothenburg-based studio River End Games, demonstrating the company’s commitment to strategic growth and expansion within the gaming industry.
