Jim Carrey is confirmed to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film. Having portrayed the notorious villain in the first two films, Carrey’s return settles any speculation about the character’s fate.
A teaser shared on the Sonic the Hedgehog film account gives fans a glimpse of Dr. Robotnik’s return with a menacing laugh, stating, “You all thought I was gone, but I’ve just been underground. What you’ve seen from me is only a shadow of things to come…”
The teaser suggests that Sonic Adventure 2 will influence the new film. Building on the post-credits scene from the second film, it confirms the return of Shadow, Sonic’s nemesis from the game. The teaser’s logo pays homage to the two hedgehogs, and the accompanying music is an orchestral rendition of Sonic Adventure 2’s main theme, Live & Learn.
Fans are left to wonder if the cinematic adaptation will feature the iconic City Escape sequence from the game and if characters like Rouge the Bat and the adorable chaos will make appearances. While the voice actor for Shadow remains unknown, the rest of the cast, along with director Jeff Fowler, is expected to return.
Before Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hits the screens, Paramount will release the Knuckles TV show, starring Idris Elba in the lead role. Additionally, Christopher Lloyd, renowned for his portrayal of Doc in the Back to the Future films, is set to feature in an undisclosed role.
In another recent announcement, Sega revealed Sonic x Shadow Generations, a remaster of the 2011 game Sonic Generations, with an added Shadow-themed campaign.
