John Cena’s legacy in WWE has left an indelible mark on many fans, but recent claims by former star Ryback shed light on a different side of the story.
Nearly a decade ago, Ryback found himself in a heated feud with John Cena after the latter’s heel turn post-WrestleMania in New Jersey.
Ryback, also known as The Big Guy, engaged in a program with Cena before other stars rose to prominence in the promotion.
In a recent live stream on Ryback TV, The Big Guy made striking allegations about Cena’s influence, suggesting that Cena orchestrated young talents from FCW to train at his gym, aiming to establish a sense of loyalty and manipulation to maintain his top position in WWE:
“Cena orchestrated that the FCW talent at the time start working out at his gym…he brainwashed a bunch of the young guys to look up to him…so that he can manipulate them and politic-wise where people didn’t want to challenge him for his spot because he became buddy-buddy with them.”
Ryback explained why he distanced himself from Cena, highlighting the perceived manipulation within WWE’s locker room:
“This is one reason I didn’t become a buddy, I got the f**k out of there…all the guys that he came up, it was all buddy-buddy with them while he still wanted to hold his spot.”
In light of these claims, it’s important to revisit Cena’s impact on WWE, especially as reports suggest a possible appearance by him and other legends like ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and The Undertaker at WrestleMania XL.
While the focus may be on the new and next-generation under Triple H’s WWE regime, the inclusion of these legends hints at something special for the monumental event in Philadelphia coming April 2024.
