Connie Booth, a veteran figure in the PlayStation ecosystem, departed from Sony in 2023 under undisclosed circumstances. Now, she has resurfaced at Electronic Arts (EA), taking on the role of Group Manager, Action RPG. In her new capacity, Booth will oversee the operations of EA Motive, Cliffhanger, and BioWare, studios responsible for highly anticipated titles such as “Man,” “Black Panther,” and the forthcoming installments in the “Dragon Age” and “Mass Effect” franchises.
Laura Miele, EA’s chief, praised Booth for her track record of fostering developer-centric environments and nurturing creative visions while driving innovation. With over three decades at Sony, Booth played a pivotal role in shaping PlayStation’s internal studios and contributed to the development of iconic titles like “Spider-Man 1 and 2,” “The Last of Us,” “Ghost of Tsushima,” “Uncharted,” and “Ratchet & Clank,” among others.
Miele expressed confidence in Booth’s ability to positively influence EA’s game development landscape, citing her esteemed reputation within the industry.
Booth’s transition to EA follows the company’s recent workforce reduction, which saw approximately 670 positions, or 5% of its workforce, being cut—a move that reflects broader industry trends of restructuring.
David Scott Jaffe, renowned for his involvement in game development, initially broke the news of Booth’s departure from PlayStation in 2023, claiming insider information indicating that she was terminated rather than leaving voluntarily. Jaffe suggested that discontent over a shift towards games-as-a-service titles, reportedly instigated by outgoing PlayStation executive Jim Ryan, may have played a role in Booth’s dismissal.
Booth’s arrival at EA coincides with the company’s strategic adjustments, including a shift away from certain licensed IP projects, signaling a period of transformation within the gaming giant.
