The BAFTA Games Awards 2024 will be helmed by comedian, podcaster, and devoted gamer Phil Wang, as announced by the academy earlier today. Wang’s hosting role for this milestone event, celebrating its 20th anniversary, reflects his longstanding passion for gaming, nurtured over the course of two decades.
Hailing from Malaysia and now a prominent figure in the UK comedy scene, Wang’s journey through gaming traces back from Windows 3.0 Freeware to renowned titles such as Age of Empires and Rome: Total War, to contemporary masterpieces like Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part 2.
Scheduled for April 11 in London, this year’s ceremony will be livestreamed on major platforms starting at 10:50 PT/ 13:50 ET/ 18:50 BST. BAFTA recently unveiled the nominees for the 2024 awards, with Baldur’s Gate 3 leading the charge with ten nominations, closely followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with nine nods, and Alan Wake securing eight. Also in contention are The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, each receiving six nominations.
Among the contenders for Best British Game are Dead Island 2, Disney Illusion Island, Football Manager 2024, Viewfinder, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, and Cassette Beasts. Additionally, the Best Game category features Dave the Diver and Super Mario Bros Wonder alongside the aforementioned titles.
