Legendary wrestling manager Jim Cornette recently weighed in on the potential direction of the storyline involving Triple H and The Rock within WWE.
At the WrestleMania 40 press event, tensions flared as The Rock confronted Triple H backstage, delivering a fiery speech laden with profanity.
This altercation set the stage for Triple H’s televised return on SmackDown, where he issued a direct challenge to The Brahma Bull, asserting his authority as the one leading the charge.
Furthermore, the WWE Chief Content Officer clarified that the headline bout for WrestleMania 40 would feature Cody Rhodes facing off against Roman Reigns.
Discussing the unfolding narrative on the Jim Cornette Experience podcast, the seasoned wrestling veteran highlighted the potential for a compelling power struggle between Triple H and The Rock, emphasizing that physical confrontation isn’t the crux of the storyline due to Triple H’s health concerns.
“They can’t have a match obviously, you mentioned Triple H’s heart problems. But again, The Rock can talk like crazy and whatever we think he’s a big star, and now he’s a heel. The fans wouldn’t believe Nick Aldis or Adam Pearce or anybody else standing up to The Rock verbally or trying to put his foot down in a power struggle. Triple H has got enough pool and enough stroke and enough credibility with that audience that they will say, ‘Yeah, this is going to be a struggle,'” commented Cornette.
He further emphasized the importance of character dynamics in the narrative, asserting that physical confrontations between the two aren’t essential for the storyline’s success.
“The personalities are what’s important here and they don’t have to fight. Again I can’t wait to see it like you said they can go so many different ways. Aldis can flip alliance or to the board of directors and try to undermine Triple H or whatever,” Cornette added.
In other developments, WWE announced on SmackDown that both Roman Reigns and The Rock are slated to make their return.
With both superstars aligning as heels and sharing grievances against Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, speculation mounts that these four individuals could collide in a tag team match at WrestleMania 40 Night One. As anticipation builds, fans eagerly await how the storyline unfolds on the road to WrestleMania.
