In a recent discussion, former WWE head writer Vince Russo delved into the potential for another clash between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the wrestling ring.
Back in 2022, The American Nightmare made a highly-anticipated return to WWE, engaging in a trilogy of matches against Seth Rollins.
In each encounter, Rhodes emerged victorious, a fact that Rollins openly acknowledges still weighs on him. Despite holding the championship, Rollins remains uncertain about his ability to overcome Cody.
During a recent segment on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of RAW podcast, Russo emphasized the importance of crafting a compelling storyline for any future rematch between the two wrestlers.
Drawing from his experience during the Attitude Era, Russo highlighted how iconic rivalries like Rock vs. Austin or Rock vs. Triple H were sustained by engaging narratives.
“That’s the thing, we used to go, so many times, we would go to Rock and Austin, and come back to Rock and Austin. Rock and Triple H and come back. But how we came back was story. That’s how we got back. So if you don’t keep getting back to this thing through a story, then you’re gonna look at how many times Cody beats Rollins, and you’re gonna say how many times is he gonna beat this guy?” [1:07:12 onwards]
Currently, Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes have temporarily set aside their individual rivalries to focus on a common opponent, The Bloodline. Both wrestlers have confirmed their participation in confronting The Rock and the rest of The Bloodline on SmackDown.
The question remains: will we witness another intense showdown between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the future? Only time will tell if these two formidable competitors will cross paths once again in the ring.
