The highly anticipated showdown between Will Ospreay and Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynasty exceeded all expectations, delivering a riveting spectacle for wrestling enthusiasts worldwide.
In a battle that stretched over 30 minutes, Ospreay emerged victorious, executing a Storm Driver ’93 followed by a Hidden Blade to secure the win.
However, the euphoria of victory was tempered by concern as Danielson visibly struggled with the aftermath of the Storm Driver ’93, prompting medical intervention.
Addressing the aftermath at the AEW Dynasty post-show media scrum, Ospreay expressed remorse upon reviewing the footage and witnessing the medical staff’s intervention.
“Within the confines of wrestling, I do go, like I said, in the ring it is more or less your life versus mine, until you kind of see it staring at you in the face of what I did and I’m honestly…I feel awful about this.
So even though like 90% of the time, that move’s been absolutely fine, seeing the damage that it’s kind of done, I’m going to retire using the Storm Driver.”
Ospreay revealed that witnessing the impact of the Storm Driver ’93 on Danielson, a wrestler he deeply admires and longed to face since childhood, compelled him to retire the move.
Expressing contrition, Ospreay extended apologies to Danielson, the AEW medical team, and Tony Khan for any recklessness in the ring. In response, Khan assured Ospreay of Danielson’s well-being and commended him for delivering an extraordinary match.
