In contrast to its cinematic predecessor, Netflix’s Ripley offers a fresh perspective, presented in attracted black and white cinematography across multiple episodes.
Andrew Scott’s portrayal of the suave forger has earned praise, making him a linchpin for potential future seasons.
“I think other ones are certainly possible,”
Zaillian affirmed, emphasizing the breadth of material available from Highsmith’s collection.
“We have the rights to all the books, so we could do it.”
Highsmith’s literary universe, centered around Ripley, provides a treasure trove of narratives awaiting exploration.
With five books devoted to Ripley’s exploits, each charting his perilous journey through deception and near-discovery, the series holds immense promise for further development on the streaming platform.
However, the road from page to screen is paved with challenges. Crafting intricate narratives demands time and dedication, as Zaillian acknowledged. He remarked as,
“I would do it again if I was able to,”
pondering the commitment required for such an endeavor. Andrew Scott concurs, emphasizing the importance of taking a hiatus to preserve the quality of any potential future seasons.
“I feel like [Ripley’s] been so long in the making,” Scott reflects, acknowledging the laborious process of bringing the character to life. With the release of “All of Us Are Strangers” alongside “Ripley,” Scott’s calendar has been full, underscoring the necessity of a well-deserved break. “I’d like to take a holiday,” he admits, hinting at the importance of recharging before considering future projects.
Nonetheless, Scott remains open to the idea of revisiting Ripley’s world, albeit with a playful caveat: “I’ll think about all those other things after I’ve had a Piña Colada or two.”
For now, enthusiasts can immerse themselves in Ripley’s captured the world by streaming all eight episodes on Netflix, eagerly awaiting any news of future developments.
