A resurgence of Sonic Heroes may be on the horizon, as reports suggest a remake could be in the works for the next iteration of Nintendo Switch.
According to a recent update from Universo Nintendo, plans are underway to revamp the 2003 platformer for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, or whatever name Nintendo opts for its successor. Allegedly, the game is being crafted using Unreal Engine.
Backing up this claim is prominent Sega insider Midori, who has vouched for the accuracy of the information.
Expanding the scope beyond Nintendo’s platform, the report indicates that the remake is also slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Sonic Heroes, which originally debuted in 2003, introduced players to a distinctive gameplay experience where they controlled a team of characters rather than just one. With four teams available, each character possessed unique abilities such as speed, power, or flight.
The game marked a significant milestone as the first multi-platform Sonic title, launching on PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, and PC platforms.
Despite its historical significance, Sonic Heroes has received a mixed reception on Metacritic, garnering “mixed or average” reviews over the years.
