As the widely praised first-person automation simulation game, Satisfactory approaches its fifth anniversary since the commencement of its early access phase, developer Coffee Stain Studios has disclosed its intention to release version 1.0 “this year.” Furthermore, the studio has shared that the
game has successfully surpassed 5.5 million copies in sales.
Initially launched on the Epic Games Store as an exclusive in March 2019, Satisfactory later transitioned to Steam the following year, gaining attention for its cooperative, open-world approach to the automated resource exploitation cycle, a concept popularized by the well-regarded Factorio developed by Wube Software.
In Satisfactory, the compelling core formula of Factorio, where players mine resources to craft items facilitating more efficient resource extraction and larger-scale crafting, is experienced in a first-person perspective within a vibrant, sci-fi open-world environment.
Up to four players can collaborate to achieve their objectives, providing a unique twist that has resonated well with the gaming community. Coffee Stain has now proudly announced that Satisfactory has exceeded 5.5 million copies in sales since its early access debut.
The revelation of this sales milestone coincides with the announcement that Satisfactory is set to exit early access later this year, although Coffee Stain has not provided a more precise release window at this time.
The developer indicates that, following the Update 8 release last year, which included the transition to Unreal Engine 5 and various other enhancements, the team is actively engaged in “working together to finalize the game.”
Coffee Stain tantalizingly hints at version 1.0 of Satisfactory featuring a “never-seen-before narrative” alongside a plethora of new features. Importantly, the studio emphasizes that development will persist even after the game’s departure from early access. Additionally, leading up to the launch of version 1.0, Coffee Stain plans to conduct a closed beta, with registration currently open for those interested in participating.
