MagicCon: Chicago, the latest convention by Wizards Of The Coast centered around Magic: The Gathering, commenced today with a burst of excitement. At the customary day one preview panel, Wizards Of The Coast unveiled a plethora of new cards slated for multiple sets scheduled for release in 2024.
Among the highlights was a captivating collaboration with the renowned Assassin’s Creed franchise, offering attendees a sneak peek into the iconic worlds of Ezio, Altair, and more.
The showcase featured an array of cards spotlighting characters from Ubisoft’s beloved stealth-action series, including Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Altair Ibn-La’Ahad, and Eivor from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The set promises to incorporate cards inspired by the game’s imaginative portrayal of historical figures, with Cleopatra and Leonardo da Vinci serving as prime examples.
Noteworthy among the revealed cards is the Animus, a pivotal element enabling temporal travel and the reliving of the Assassins’ past lives, alongside the iconic Hidden Blade, the favored weapon of Assassins. Furthermore, the panel unveiled the intriguing Haystack card, a nod to the cherished hiding spot synonymous with the stealthy pursuits of Assassins.
In addition to the Assassin’s Creed collaboration, the MagicCon preview panel offered a glimpse into cards from three other sets: Bloomburrow, a fantastical realm inhabited by woodland creatures; Modern Horizons 3, the third installment in a series tailored for the Modern format; and Outlaws At Thunder Junction, a spaghetti-Western-themed set replete with cowboys, bandits, and frontier allure.
The collaboration with Assassin’s Creed marks the next exciting venture for Magic: The Gathering, following the highly anticipated Fallout expansion set to launch on March 8. Moreover, fans can anticipate a significant “tentpole expansion” featuring the iconic Final Fantasy franchise slated for 2025.
Scheduled for release in July at local game stores, the Magic: The Gathering Assassin’s Creed expansion will offer cards in various formats, including the innovative “Beyond Booster” pack, collector boosters, bundles, and a new starter kit featuring Ezio and Eivor, inviting players to immerse themselves in the thrilling worlds of both Magic and Assassin’s Creed.
