Pedro Pascal is currently in negotiations to take the lead role in an A24 romantic comedy helmed by director Celine Song, known for her work on “Past Lives.” And that’s not all – there’s a stellar cast in the talks as well.
According to Variety, Pascal is poised to headline “Materialists,” a romantic comedy set in New York City that revolves around a high-end matchmaker entangled with a wealthy suitor. Joining Pascal in discussions for roles are Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans.
Celine Song’s previous film, “Past Lives,” garnered critical acclaim with five Golden Globe nominations, three BAFTA Film Award nominations, and nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay at the 96th Academy Awards. The film starred Greta Lee and Teo Yoo as childhood friends reuniting after years apart, exploring themes of love and friendship.
Pascal is currently juggling multiple projects, including his lead roles in “The Last of Us” season 2, “Gladiator 2,” and Marvel’s “Fantastic Four,” where he’s set to portray Reed Richards, marking his official entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also has a role in Ethan Coen’s “Drive-Away Dolls,” alongside Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan.
Dakota Johnson, known for her recent work in narrating and executive-producing the documentary “The Disappearance of Shere Hite” and starring in the drama “Daddio” alongside Sean Penn, is slated to play Madame Webb in Sony’s upcoming film of the same name.
Chris Evans, who starred in Netflix’s “Pain Hustlers” and Apple TV Plus’s “Ghosted” last year, will next be seen in “Red One,” a Christmas-themed action-adventure film alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kiernan Shipka, and Lucy Liu.
As for “Materialists,” there’s no release date yet, but it’s definitely one to watch out for. For more updates on this and other exciting upcoming films in 2024 and beyond, stay tuned.
