The wrestling world was abuzz when Nikki Bella, the former WWE Divas Champion, expressed interest in working with Tony Khan, the CEO of All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Bella, who spent the majority of her wrestling career in WWE before departing in 2022, revealed that she was inspired to reach out to Khan after watching Mercedes Mone (formerly Sasha Banks) in AEW. Khan responded enthusiastically, saying he’d love to welcome both Nikki and her twin sister Brie to AEW.
However, not everyone is convinced that this potential move is a good idea. Jim Cornette, a veteran wrestling manager, shared his thoughts on why Nikki might want to work with Khan, saying that “Nikki Bella thinks she’s a bigger star than she is” and that “she wants to go somewhere where she can be the center of attention.”
Cornette also warned that AEW needs to be cautious about setting a precedent by bringing in established stars from WWE. “If Tony Khan is willing to sign everybody who’s been in the WWE and thinks they’re a big star, then he’s going to end up with a bunch of people who think they’re bigger than they are,” he explained on his Official Jim Cornette podcast.
Bella’s decision to reach out to Khan was reportedly motivated by her admiration for Mercedes Mone’s work in AEW. However, her responsibilities as a mother ultimately prevented her from following through with her plan. As she confessed on The Nikki & Brie Show, “I was going to call Tony Khan after watching Mercedes, and then I was like, ‘Wait, what am I doing? I have a son.'”
Nikki Bella’s future in the wrestling world remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: her potential move to AEW has sparked a lively debate about the consequences of bringing in established stars from WWE. Will AEW be able to navigate these complexities and emerge stronger, or will it succumb to the pressures of egos and expectations? Only time will tell.
