Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of the 2004 game, incorporating modern graphics and features while allowing players to experience the original’s aesthetic through various color filters. One notable filter, the yellowish tone from the original game, has been reintroduced. This feature aims to balance the new visual updates with a nostalgic nod to the classic look that longtime fans appreciate.
Producer Noriaki Okamura addressed fan feedback in a YouTube episode of Metal Gear – Production Hotline, explaining that players can switch between multiple color filters.
These filters are available in both the updated and original control settings, allowing a customizable experience whether players prefer the new or legacy style. The options include a “Normal” palette for the remake and a “Legacy” filter mimicking the original’s hues.
Screenshots and videos showcase the differences between these filters. The “Normal” filter presents the updated color scheme, while the “Legacy” filter retains the original’s yellow-green tones. Additional filters include a “Sepia” option with a brownish tint and a “Retro” filter with a purple hue, providing further customization for players.
The inclusion of these filters addresses some fans’ concerns about changes to the game’s art style. This move echoes the response to other HD remakes, such as Shadow of the Colossus and Halo 2 Anniversary, which faced criticism for altering the original artistic intent in favor of more realistic visuals. The option to revert to classic filters in Metal Gear Solid Delta aims to honor the original’s style and appease dedicated fans.
Metal Gear Solid Delta is slated for release later this year on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. Producer Okamura also expressed Konami’s desire for the original director, Hideo Kojima, to return to the series, highlighting the developers’ commitment to maintaining the game’s legacy while embracing new advancements.
