AEW wrestler Matt Hardy, a veteran of the wrestling industry, recently shared his surprise at the unexpected departure of Scott D’Amore from TNA, now known as Impact Wrestling, after nearly two decades with the company.
Anthem Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of TNA, confirmed D’Amore’s departure, signaling a significant change in the company’s leadership. D’Amore, who served as TNA President during his tenure, played a pivotal role in the company’s rebranding efforts.
Reflecting on D’Amore’s departure, Hardy expressed his shock during an episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, highlighting the unexpected nature of the announcement.
He acknowledged the challenges TNA faced over the years, including the transitions following his and his brother’s departure in 2017, the return of Jeff Jarrett, and D’Amore’s subsequent rise to a prominent creative position within the company.
Hardy commended D’Amore for his leadership and credited him with revitalizing TNA during a period of uncertainty. He emphasized D’Amore’s ability to elevate the company’s credibility and generate excitement among fans, particularly during its rebranding as TNA.
Despite the turbulence TNA experienced, Hardy underscored D’Amore’s contributions in steering the company in a positive direction.
The last time Hardy competed in a TNA match was in January 2017, marking the end of his tenure with the company. Reflecting on his final matches alongside his brother Jeff, Hardy recalled their victories and contributions to TNA’s tag team division.
Regarding D’Amore’s future endeavors, speculation has arisen about his potential fit within other wrestling promotions, including AEW.
Former WWE and TNA star Matt Morgan voiced his belief that D’Amore could significantly contribute to AEW’s creative team, given his wealth of experience in the industry.
While WWE’s creative direction appears stable, Morgan suggested that AEW could benefit from D’Amore’s expertise, especially in light of Anthem’s decision to part ways with him.
Reports indicate that D’Amore’s departure from TNA stemmed from disagreements over the company’s future direction. Despite the sudden nature of his exit, several wrestlers expressed support for D’Amore on social media, reflecting his impact and influence within the wrestling community.
