2K and Hangar 13 have announced that Mafia: Definitive Edition will join Game Pass on August 13, making it accessible on consoles, PC, and cloud platforms. This inclusion enables a broader audience to experience the game on multiple devices via the Game Pass subscription service.
Mafia: Definitive Edition is a comprehensive remake of the original 2002 game, featuring additional vehicles, weapons, and outfits. The game incorporates gameplay mechanics from Mafia 3, including enhanced shooting and cover systems.
Players who prefer a more authentic experience can opt for the “Classic Mode,” where driving within speed limits is enforced by police, and first-aid kits provide less health, replicating the original game’s challenges.
In 2022, Hangar 13 confirmed it was developing a new Mafia game. There were reports that the studio was working on a Mafia prequel set in Italy using Unreal Engine 5, which could be the same project. However, there has been no new information released by Hangar 13 about this project since the initial announcement.
According to a review by GameSpot, Mafia: Definitive Edition improves upon the original game but falls short of its full potential, resulting in an uneven experience. The game is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and with Xbox Cloud Gaming now available on select Fire Stick 4K TV devices, players can enjoy Game Pass games without needing a console.
