Mayor of London Sadiq Khan recently revealed plans to host WWE WrestleMania in the UK capital, a move aimed at enhancing the city’s global sporting stature.
Despite WWE’s President Nick Khan affirming that major events like WrestleMania will remain in the US and Canada, other Pay-Per-View Live Events (PLEs) like Clash at the Castle and Bash in Berlin are scheduled for Scotland and Germany in 2024.
Before his mayoral campaign, Sadiq Khan vowed to draw prominent sporting events to London, including the Olympics and WrestleMania.
He expressed his ambition to boost London’s status as the world’s premier sports hub, emphasizing its rich history of hosting major events like the Olympics and cricket’s Ashes series.
“If I’m re-elected on May 02, I’m determined to go even further and fully cement London’s reputation as the undisputed sports capital of the world. I believe that London has the potential to host the first international WrestleMania,” Khan stated.
At Money in the Bank 2023, wrestling icons like John Cena and Cody Rhodes rallied support for bringing WrestleMania to London, igniting fervor among fans at The O2 Arena.
While WWE’s plans for WrestleMania in the UK remain uncertain, the enthusiasm from both fans and public figures underscores the city’s allure as a global sporting destination.
