2K Games has recently implemented a round of layoffs at Visual Concepts Austin, affecting an unspecified number of developers.
According to a report by Game Developer, Brad Bowling, a former art manager, disclosed the news via LinkedIn, indicating that he and a group of highly skilled developers had been let go from the company.
Reflecting on his time with the company, Bowling expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with top-tier game developers, stating, “I have had a great time over the past couple of years working with some of the finest game devs in the industry.” He further noted the unprecedented nature of the current downturn, stating, “Over the past 23 years of making game art, I have seen some downturns but nothing like this.”
Sydney F, a former associate software engineer, also shared on LinkedIn that they, along with several other exceptional colleagues, had been affected by the layoffs.
GamesIndustry.biz has made inquiries to 2K Games seeking further clarification on the matter.
This is not the first instance of layoffs at Visual Concepts Austin, as last September witnessed a similar event impacting employees across various departments, including production, design, and quality assurance, as reported by Game Developer.
Visual Concepts Austin, formerly known as HookBang, was acquired by 2K Games in 2021. The team at Visual Concepts Austin had previously contributed to projects such as NBA 2K21 and had developed the web game PackRat.
