Following a recent surge in concurrent player capacity during the bustling weekend, Helldivers 2 servers are once again undergoing enhancements to accommodate the influx of players flocking to purchase the game.
Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Studios, took to Twitter to announce that they anticipate the Helldivers 2 servers reaching their maximum capacity of 800,000 Concurrent Connected Users (CCU) within just a few hours.
With the co-op shooter unexpectedly becoming a sales sensation, queues for Helldivers 2 have consistently been at capacity, even surpassing the peak player count of God of War, which was once touted as PlayStation’s most successful Steam launch.
Arrowhead Studios has been proactive in addressing the issue of lengthy queue times by releasing multiple patches aimed at increasing the number of players able to participate simultaneously. Despite these efforts, the studio acknowledges that there may still be “light queues,” as mentioned by the studio’s boss.
Pilestedt is keen to highlight the remarkable response, considering Arrowhead Studios is a relatively small team with approximately 100 developers. However, this number may see a slight increase as the studio has embarked on a hiring spree to meet the high demand.
Nevertheless, the studio’s focus isn’t solely on patching server capacity. In response to a query from a player on social media, Pilestedt hinted at developers working on “optimizations” while others are engaged in developing “some real cool stuff.” Speculation among enthusiasts suggests this could involve the introduction of mechs and a faction from the first game, among other possibilities.
