Goldberg has recently shared a significant update on his potential return, just days ahead of WrestleMania 40.
Having been absent from the wrestling scene since his last match against Roman Reigns in early 2022, where he lost via technical submission, Goldberg’s contract with WWE ended, marking his hiatus from the ring.
In a recent appearance on the Drinkin’ Bros Studios podcast, Goldberg discussed his current status.
When asked about a potential return to wrestling, the WWE Hall of Famer expressed that he hadn’t retired, emphasizing the common belief among wrestlers that one doesn’t retire until they’re no longer alive.
“When you’re a professional wrestler by trade, you never retire until you’re dead. I’ve been asked a couple of times but it’s hard to break me away from… I’ve been hanging on the sidelines for four years with my son. My wife and I moved here for the sole reason of watching my son grow up in unbelievable surroundings, and it’s been fabulous.” (20:07 – 20:31)
Goldberg, who relocated to Boerne, Texas, in 2019 with his family, seems content with his life there. He expressed pride in his son’s upcoming football career in college and emphasized his desire to be there to support him.
While there have been offers for a Hollywood career, Goldberg emphasized that any potential endeavors must revolve around his son’s needs.
Despite his absence from the ring, Goldberg hasn’t shied away from expressing his feelings about his treatment by the company.
He voiced bitterness regarding Asuka’s breaking of his streak, highlighting his displeasure with the portrayal of the situation.
“That happened after I got there. A girl beat my undefeated streak. I can’t even remember. Ah-soo-ka [Asuka] is her name. Some Japanese girl. They touted her as being the one to have the longest winning streak. It just so happened that it culminated when I got there. Then, it just so happened that every single wrestler uses the spear in their moves. Pretty ironic that happened when I got there.”
As of now, it doesn’t seem likely that Goldberg will return to the ring anytime soon.
