Square Enix has unveiled fresh insights into Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox Series X|S, including the introduction of a novel premium currency dubbed FFXIV Coins.
These FFXIV Coins appear to be unique to the Xbox version of the game, requiring purchase from the Microsoft Store and will serve as the sole currency for in-game transactions. Square Enix clarified that when playing on other platforms, players will have access to alternative payment methods.
It is already established that access to Final Fantasy XIV necessitates an Xbox Game Pass subscription (Core or Ultimate), although Square Enix reiterated that the game is not part of the service’s library. Nevertheless, Ultimate subscribers can enjoy the Final Fantasy XIV Starter Edition, encompassing the base game, A Realm Reborn, and its expansions—Heavensward and Stormblood—as a complimentary perk until April 19.
The arrival of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox Series X|S is slated for March 21. Meanwhile, the forthcoming expansion, Dawntrail, is scheduled for a Summer 2024 debut. Endwalker, released in 2021, marked the most recent expansion.
In GameSpot’s review of Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker, it was noted, “For all that Endwalker suffers from pacing issues and the sheer amount of plot lines it lobs at us, an earnestness carries the entire story. Endwalker is jubilant in its sincerity, and tender in the way it treats life and death, mankinds’ inevitable failing and flaws.”
