Dr Disrespect made his first on-camera appearance since June to address recent social media allegations of ‘minor messaging’ against him.
This issue has been a significant topic in the content creation community over the past few months, particularly after former Twitch employees came forward with their claims.
During the first 20 minutes of his return stream, Dr Disrespect criticized Twitch, reaffirmed that he does not deny the actions in question, and sought to clarify the situation from his perspective, all while addressing an audience of 240,000 viewers.
In his initial stream in over two months, Dr Disrespect provided a detailed account of his side of the story.
According to reports, Dr Disrespect sent a message to a minor on Twitch in 2017, which he has admitted to, and in 2020, this incident was reportedly used as leverage to have him removed from the platform.
Dr Disrespect’s version of events is that the relationship between him and Twitch soured in 2019 when he was paired with a partner manager with whom he struggled to work effectively.
This led to a grudge, and the partner manager began investigating Dr Disrespect’s private messages on Twitch.
Despite a review by Twitch’s Trust and Safety team finding no wrongdoing, the partner manager persisted and enlisted a friend to escalate the issue to Twitch’s Law Enforcement Team. Once again, no illegal actions were found, and the case was closed.
Dr Disrespect claimed that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also reviewed the case, finding no evidence of illegal activity, and no further action was taken.
He also stated that the alleged victim had no desire to escalate the issue to Twitch, and neither he nor the victim were interviewed.
Dr Disrespect addressed the issue further on his stream, saying:
“It has affected us on so many levels—back in 2020, and now in 2024. And Cody Connors, I just have to say it again… Why would you do this? Like I said, this was handled professionally years ago, no wrongdoing. But because of you, Cody, we unfortunately had to lay off people from Midnight Society because of you.”
Cody Connors is referenced as the individual who reignited the situation with social media posts in June.
Dr Disrespect continued:
“For all you Doc haters, I’m sure you’ll just dissect all of this and still find a way to publicly criticize me, but do what you need to do. But this isn’t for you. This is for my team today, my community, and my friends that have supported me.
And I’m not denying the exchange of Whispers, Champs. I’m not denying that to all of you out there, it looks bad.
I have no way of knowing if the Twitch user thought our exchange of Whispers was inappropriate, and if it was, I apologize. All I know is that I never did what Twitch, Cody Connors, or the public is claiming that I did. That’s it.”
Critics have claimed that Dr Disrespect lacks evidence for his statements, but there has also been no verification from those condemning him to substantiate his alleged wrongdoing. Dr Disrespect has admitted to the messaging but is now attempting to mitigate the damage and salvage his career.
He mentioned that he is eligible to apply for monetization on YouTube starting September 25, and if successful, he hopes to continue his streaming career as usual.
