In a significant development for WWE fans, Cody Rhodes, known as The American Nightmare, solidifies his commitment to the Stamford-based company with a fresh multi-year contract extension.
This announcement comes on the heels of Rhodes’ return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 after a six-year hiatus, marking his pivotal role within the organization.
In an interview with Justin Walker, Rhodes disclosed the extension just days before the much-anticipated WrestleMania 40, affirming his dedication to WWE.
At 38 years old, Rhodes acknowledges that his new contract extends beyond his 40th birthday, signaling a commitment beyond the immediate future.
“I can tell you 40 is out of the question just because, not to give you scoop, it was widely reported, but I did sign a new contract with WWE. It extends beyond my 40th birthday,”
Rhodes shared.
Since his return, Rhodes has been a central figure in feuds with notable WWE stars like Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, and The Judgment Day.
His prominence was further highlighted by his main event appearance at last year’s WrestleMania 39, where he contended against Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
Going into his retirement plans, Rhodes expressed a desire to transition away from professional wrestling gracefully. Reflecting on his father, the legendary Dusty Rhodes, he emphasized the importance of being present for family, particularly his young daughter.
“The plan is still, when it’s time to step out, to step out without it being a painful process. Solely because I saw my dad [Dusty Rhodes] as an old man wrestler and he loved it and enjoyed it, but as his son it was hard to see. My daughter is two going on three, there does have to be a time, just like he was with us, where I have to be home all the time and be there with her. It’s not 40 anymore. I’ll update the number. I hit the prime run late in the game. I often forget that I’m nearing 40,”
Rhodes remarked.
