Two new images from the highly-anticipated Borderlands film have emerged, offering fans a glimpse into the movie’s gritty universe.
Shared by People magazine, both images prominently feature the acclaimed actress Cate Blanchett, sporting striking red hair that perfectly captures the essence of her character, the notorious outlaw Lilith.
In the first photo, Blanchett stands alone, embodying Lilith’s persona with an uncanny resemblance to her video game counterpart.
The second image depicts Blanchett alongside her fellow cast members, collectively peering into a manhole with an intensity reminiscent of the iconic imagery from the 2003 film Holes.
Joining Blanchett in this star-studded cast are Kevin Hart as the soldier Roland, Ariana Greenblatt portraying the pre-teen demolitionist Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Tina’s formidable bodyguard Krieg, Jamie Lee Curtis as the scientist Tannis, and Jack Black lending his voice to the beloved robot Claptrap.
A synopsis of the forthcoming film teases an epic adventure where the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, but the true essence lies in the camaraderie and bonds forged between the characters.
Scheduled for release on August 9th, the Borderlands adaptation has endured a tumultuous journey from its inception. Initially announced in 2015, the project experienced a prolonged period of stagnation.
In 2020, Gearbox revealed that Eli Roth, known for his work on Hostel, would helm the directorial duties, with Craig Mazin, renowned for his contributions to The Last of Us and Chernobyl, penning the script. Promises were made of a fresh and captivating cinematic experience that would satisfy both moviegoers and gaming enthusiasts alike.
However, the production encountered further turbulence with subsequent changes to the creative team. Tim Miller, director of Deadpool, stepped in to oversee reshoots following Roth’s departure for other projects.
Moreover, reports surfaced last year suggesting Mazin’s attempt to distance himself from the Borderlands adaptation by adopting a pseudonym, casting shadows of uncertainty over the project’s development.
