It appears that Larian Studios has scored a significant victory, with Baldur’s Gate 3 surpassing the impressive milestone of 10 million players. The director of publishing for the developer disclosed this major achievement for the RPG over the weekend while also issuing a caution against “threats [and] toxicity” aimed at his team.
As reported by VGC, Larian executive Michael Douse highlighted the substantial growth in the player base on X (formerly Twitter) while discussing the forthcoming mod support for Baldur’s Gate 3 on consoles.
Douse reflected on the rapid expansion of the game’s player count, noting that it had surged from approximately 2 million to well over 10 million within a short timeframe, leading to a more complex and contentious conversation. He emphasized the necessity for patience in engaging in these discussions to maintain constructive dialogue.
We’ll be talking in depth about what our mod support will look like soon. Been working on it since launch. As always, we’ll discuss it in our way with our community. Threats & toxicity against our devs & community teams will only harm the conversation. Please stop that.

Furthermore, Douse hinted at an upcoming detailed discussion about the mod support for the game, which has been in development since its launch.
He reiterated the studio’s commitment to communicating with the community in their own distinct manner and urged against threats and toxic behavior towards the development and community teams, emphasizing that such actions only serve to hinder meaningful discourse.
Evidently, updates for Baldur’s Gate 3 have caused disruptions to unofficial mods for the RPG, prompting some negative feedback directed at the developers as they work on official mod support. Douse acknowledged that while the majority of the game’s community is understanding, a small minority can ignite significant discord.
Earlier in the year, Larian Studios’ founder and CEO, Swen Vincke, expressed staunch opposition to gaming subscription services, advocating for a direct relationship between developers and players. This stance likely contributes to Baldur’s Gate 3 not being included in platforms like PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass.
