After a remarkable 26-year journey, Games recruitment specialist One Player Mission (OPM) is set to close its doors. The agency, which currently boasts a team of 15 dedicated professionals, is succumbing to the challenging climate prevailing in the games industry.
Kim Parker-Adcock, the Managing Director of OPM, expressed her somber outlook, citing the current state of the games industry as a pivotal factor leading to the decision.
With a notable decline in available game roles and an influx of candidates, the past 12 months witnessed over 10,000 layoffs among game industry professionals. Although industry insiders anticipate a resurgence, leaders caution that a full recovery may span up to two years.
In an official statement posted on the OPM website, Parker-Adcock shared the difficulty of arriving at this decision: “After careful consideration and evaluation, it is with great sadness that I must announce my decision to cease trading. This has been an incredibly challenging decision for me, and it comes after a thorough examination of all available options. As we move into 2024, despite our best efforts, I cannot see how OPM can remain profitable and overcome the difficulties that have arisen in the games industry. I understand the impact this decision has on our employees, clients, candidates, and partners, and I can only apologize for any disruption this might cause.”
Acknowledging the upheaval this decision may cause, Parker-Adcock reassured stakeholders that efforts will be made to minimize disruption during this challenging period.
The management team is committed to providing support, information, and a smooth transition for employees, clients, and partners affected by this unfortunate turn of events.
