Bryan Danielson and Swerve Strickland are both prominent figures in AEW, occupying top positions within the organization.
Danielson, currently in his final year as a full-time wrestler, recently faced a defeat against Will Ospreay, while Strickland clinched the AEW World Championship after defeating Samoa Joe.
With Danielson set to reduce his wrestling schedule significantly after this year, it may be his last opportunity to vie for the AEW World Championship.
In an interview with “Going Ringside” on News4JAX, Strickland discussed the possibility of facing the former WWE Champion. While acknowledging the high stakes involved, Strickland expressed enthusiasm for the potential match.
“Best of our era,” Strickland praised Danielson.
“Hopefully, he’s doing well. When he returns, whenever that may be, I have unfinished business with him from our previous encounter on ‘Dynamite’ where I came up short. He owes me.”
Strickland affirmed his readiness to take on any challenger aiming for a shot at the AEW World Championship, including Danielson’s ally from the Blackpool Combat Club, Claudio Castagnoli, as well as Strickland’s adversaries Darby Allin and “Hangman” Adam Page.
Although Danielson is reportedly in good health, his recent match against Will Ospreay at Sunday’s inaugural AEW Dynasty pay-per-view left the 42-year-old visibly fatigued, showcasing injuries from the intense bout.
Given Strickland’s remarks, it’s likely that Danielson will take a brief hiatus before returning to AEW. The question remains whether Danielson will reenter the world title picture before scaling back his wrestling commitments later this year.
