Originally known as Formula Fusion, Pacer is a high-speed racing game that serves as a spiritual successor to the early Wipeout series. Many of the developers from Psygnosis Leeds, the team behind the BAFTA-winning Wip3out, have contributed to the creation of Pacer.
R8 Games, the developer behind Pacer, has collaborated with the Wipeout series’ graphic design team, Designers Republic, and its renowned composer, Tim Wright (known as CoLD SToRAGE).
Pacer offers an array of features:
– Customizable Craft: Players can choose from five types of craft, altering their appearance, performance, and armaments.
– Four Unique Tracks: Each track has different variants, including Night, Mirrored, and Reverse.
– Eight Game Modes: These include Elimination, Endurance, and a Battle Royale-inspired mode called ‘Storm’.
– Campaign Mode: Players start as trainee pilots and progress through 10 unique race teams.
– Original Soundtrack: Features tracks created by Tim Wright, aka CoLD SToRAGE.
– Online Multiplayer: Supports up to 10 players, with Ranked Mode and Tournament/Spectator Mode available.
Pacer began as an Early Access title on Steam in 2015, following a successful crowdfunding campaign. After several iterations, it was rebranded as Pacer and initially slated for release in 2019.
At launch, Pacer will include 14 different tracks, five customizable craft, and an original soundtrack by CoLD SToRAGE. It’s unclear if the game will feature licensed music as previously mentioned.
Steve Iles, the Senior Producer, expressed excitement about the game’s impending release, highlighting the variety of gameplay modes available, including the single-player campaign and the intense multiplayer options, especially the Battle Royale-inspired ‘Storm’ mode.
