Toni Storm’s dominance in AEW’s women’s division is undeniable, but her focus isn’t solely on her upcoming title match—it’s also on settling some scores from her past in WWE.
Storm and Deonna Purrazzo have a history dating back to their time in WWE’s NXT brand. Their paths crossed during the UK Download Festival in June 2019, where Storm successfully defended her NXT UK Women’s Championship against Purrazzo.
Fast forward to the present, both are prominent figures in the current landscape of women’s wrestling, now signed to AEW, and set to clash once again, this time with the AEW Women’s World Championship up for grabs at the upcoming Revolution pay-per-view.
In a recent interview with Chris Jericho on his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Storm didn’t mince words when discussing her former friend turned rival.
Reflecting on their past camaraderie, Storm remarked,
“That b***h. She storms in here demanding a title match because she used to be my friend, and yes that is true. We had many a wonderful time together in Japan. We lived together, on the floor…but as time goes on people drift apart, people move away, people become more successful than others.” Storm expressed frustration that Purrazzo would use their history to angle for a title shot, asserting her own superiority by quipping, “I’ve had many friends in this business, all of them less talented than me.”
Storm’s animosity towards Purrazzo seems to stem from her perception that Purrazzo is trying to ride her coattails into AEW for her own gain. Despite their shared history, Storm is determined not to let sentimentality cloud her judgment when it comes to competition.
The rivalry between Storm and Purrazzo extends beyond personal history; it’s deeply rooted in their professional trajectories. From their initial encounter in 2017 at STARDOM’s New Year’s Stars event to their clashes in WWE NXT UK, their paths have consistently crossed, each bout adding layers to their competitive dynamic.
Their upcoming showdown at AEW Revolution represents the culmination of years of history and animosity. As the AEW Women’s World Champion, Storm stands as a barrier to Purrazzo’s ambitions, setting the stage for what promises to be a heated battle for supremacy on March 3.
As AEW continues to build momentum with its women’s division, the clash between Toni Storm and Deonna Purrazzo stands out as a marquee matchup, blending personal vendettas with professional aspirations in a collision that epitomizes the intensity of modern women’s wrestling.
