Six-time Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam has opened up about his preference for working in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) over WWE.
The wrestling veteran has been making occasional appearances in AEW in recent months, with his latest outing being on the January 31 episode of Dynamite where he faced Swerve Strickland.
During an episode of his “1 of a Kind” podcast, RVD shared his sentiments about working in AEW. He expressed that he feels more at ease in the Jacksonville-based promotion compared to WWE, citing its simplicity and resemblance to the independent wrestling scene as key factors.
“I get a lot of respect there, obviously. I’m more comfortable there than I am at WWE. It feels less grandioso; it has a very important indie vibe that’s cranked up to like, ‘Boom, it’s TV day.’ It’s not the same as the pressure – at least it doesn’t seem like it – around WWE. By that I mean like the agenda or what your job is to do throughout the entire day. It seems less complicated.”
Rob Van Dam’s candid remarks shed light on his experience and comfort level within different wrestling environments, highlighting the distinct atmosphere and dynamics between AEW and WWE.
In addition to his comments on AEW, Van Dam recently made headlines by expressing his opinion on WWE star Logan Paul. He subtly shared his thoughts by liking a tweet that likened Logan Paul to a “diet version” of himself.
The tweet suggested WWE’s historical reluctance to push Van Dam contrasted with their endorsement of Logan Paul, sparking discussions among fans about the two personalities.
While Van Dam’s views may seem critical, they reflect his unique perspective shaped by years of experience in the wrestling industry. As both AEW and WWE continue to evolve, it remains to be seen how talents like Van Dam navigate and contribute to the ever-changing landscape of professional wrestling.
