A new trailer for The Penguin, a spin-off from The Batman, was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, alongside the announcement of the show’s release date. The exclusive footage, showcased in Hall H and seen by GamesRadar+, features the Penguin, played by Colin Farrell, dancing with his mother, who has been rehabilitated from Arkham Asylum.
Additionally, the trailer introduces Sofia Falcone, portrayed by Cristin Milioti, marking a departure from the character’s traditional depiction in DC Comics.
The series, described as an “epic crime saga,” is set to premiere on September 19 and will follow the rise of Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, in Gotham City’s underworld. The storyline picks up after the death of crime lord Carmine Falcone, played by John Turturro, who was killed by the Riddler in the 2022 movie The Batman.
With Falcone’s death leaving a power vacuum, Oz faces off against Falcone’s heirs in a struggle for dominance. Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman, is attached as an executive producer for the series.
The cast of The Penguin includes notable actors such as Michael Zegen, who plays Sofia’s brother Alberto, and Clancy Brown, who takes on the role of mob boss Salvatore Maroni. Additional cast members include Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell. There is also speculation about Mark Strong’s involvement in the series, based on a comment from his personal trainer.
The Penguin will be available on Max starting September 19. Fans eager for more updates can look forward to a comprehensive guide to this year’s upcoming TV shows and can stay informed through GamesRadar+’s SDCC 2024 live blog and schedule.
