Marvel Comics has unveiled new details about Joe Kelly and Ed McGuiness’ forthcoming storyline in Amazing Spider-Man titled ‘The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man’ during their Next Big Thing panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego. This announcement includes spoilers for the finale of the ongoing Blood Hunt crossover. Fans should be aware that significant plot points are revealed.
The Blood Hunt crossover concludes with a significant twist: Doctor Strange transfers the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme to Doctor Doom, who has been vying for this position. This transition ushers in a new status quo dubbed ‘One World Under Doom’, a scenario Marvel teased during the panel. This shift in power will have considerable implications for the Marvel Universe.
As the new Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom will take on the role of Earth’s magical protector, a task he approaches with grand ambitions. He will recruit Spider-Man for this mission, equipping him with a magical suit and granting him eight “extra lives” to aid in his survival against various threats. This setup forms the crux of the upcoming storyline, adding a magical dimension to Spider-Man’s adventures.
Marvel also shared Ed McGuiness’ design for Spider-Man’s new magical suit, alongside the covers for Amazing Spider-Man issues #61 and #62.
The official description of the storyline hints at the challenges ahead, emphasizing that despite the additional lives, Spider-Man may still find it difficult to save the world under Doom’s command. The plot promises high stakes and intense action, aligning with Marvel’s tradition of dramatic storytelling.
The creative team for this arc includes not only Kelly and McGuiness but also writer Justina Ireland and artist Gleb Melnikov. The storyline is set to span ten issues, commencing in November right after Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.’s current run. This new direction for Amazing Spider-Man promises to be a thrilling addition to the series, blending superhero action with mystical elements.
