The slasher movie “In a Violent Nature,” known for its intense and stomach-churning scenes, is set to receive a surprise sequel. This announcement came from IFC Films and Shudder on July 27, accompanied by a creatively designed bloody poster featuring a meat hook shaped like a ‘2’. The sequel’s teaser has already generated significant excitement among horror fans.
The original movie, directed by Chris Nash and currently holding a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is told from the killer’s point of view. It has drawn comparisons to genre staples like “Friday the 13th” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
The plot follows a group of teens who are hunted by the vengeful spirit of Johnny, a local who was murdered 60 years ago. Johnny’s wrath is sparked by the theft of his mother’s necklace from his resting place.
Producer Peter Kuplowsky revealed that the original film was conceived as a meta-sequel within a fictional slasher series, hinting at the potential for further mayhem beyond the first film. The team is excited to continue Johnny’s story, expressing gratitude to IFC Films and Shudder for their support in realizing director Chris Nash’s vision.
Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks’ film group, commended the original film for its fresh take on the horror genre and for introducing a new slasher icon in Johnny. The sequel intends to enhance Johnny’s character, making him more formidable and showcasing even more impressive kills, reflecting the continued demand for innovative horror films.
“In a Violent Nature” was released in US theaters in May and UK cinemas in July, with a Shudder release scheduled for later in the year.
