Supermassive Games has announced the launch of its narrative-focused single-player game, *The Casting of Frank Stone*, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 3rd. This game is a spin-off from the popular *Dead by Daylight* series.
Set in Cedar Hills, Oregon, during the summer of 1980, the story follows a group of young filmmakers who visit an abandoned steel mill to shoot a horror movie titled *Murder Mill*. However, they encounter a dormant evil that transforms their film into a “soon-to-be cult classic with an insidious influence.”
*The Casting of Frank Stone* follows the interactive horror movie format that Supermassive Games has perfected through titles like *Until Dawn*, *The Dark Pictures Anthology*, and *The Quarry*. Players will make choices that influence the narrative, the characters’ relationships, and their ultimate fates.
This branching cinematic story allows for multiple outcomes based on the decisions made by the player, emphasizing the importance of choice and consequence in shaping the game’s direction.
The gameplay involves navigating through eerie locations, solving environmental puzzles, and reacting to Quick Time Events. Players guide a cast of characters through these locations, searching for clues that reveal the bigger picture.
According to publisher Behaviour Interactive, the game emphasizes that “actions can speak louder than words” and that every decision can alter the reality within the story, unlocking new paths and potential horrors.
In addition to the release date announcement, Behaviour Interactive revealed several updates during the Dead by Daylight 8th anniversary Livestream. One major update is the introduction of a new 2v8 game mode launching on July 25th, where eight survivors will face off against two killers across five classic maps.
These maps have been expanded to support the increased player count, and survivors will need to repair eight out of 13 generators to escape. The update also includes a new survivor class system and changes to killer abilities.
Furthermore, cross-progression is coming to Dead by Daylight on July 22nd. This feature allows players to share their progress, inventory, paid currency, and DLC across multiple platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Windows Store using a Behaviour Account.
However, there are some limitations with the Nintendo Switch version, where paid currency and DLC bought on Switch can’t be shared elsewhere, but those bought on other platforms can be used on Switch. Behavior Interactive has provided an FAQ to help clarify these details for players.
