Director Koshi Nakanishi expressed the challenges faced in conceptualizing the game following Resident Evil 7, stating, “We’re making a new Resident Evil. It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil] 7.” He hinted at the project’s significance and eagerly anticipated sharing more details when appropriate.
Nakanishi’s previous works include design contributions to Resident Evil 5, and directorial roles in titles such as Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, and Resident Evil 7: biohazard. The announcement was made during Capcom NEXT – Summer 2024, generating buzz among fans eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Rumors suggest the upcoming Resident Evil will feature an open-world design using the RE Engine, drawing comparisons to titles like Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds.
Official details are expected to emerge later in the year, with a tentative release date slated for 2025. Meanwhile, remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are reportedly in the pipeline, adding to the excitement surrounding the franchise’s future.
