After a careful and phased rollout to prevent potential issues, Digital Extremes, the developer behind the free-to-play sci-fi shooter Warframe, has officially announced the availability of the long-anticipated cross-platform save feature for all players.
Over the past few years, Digital Extremes has been diligently working on cross-platform support for Warframe. The introduction of cross-play occurred in December 2022, followed by the gradual rollout of cross-save in December of the subsequent year, allowing players to seamlessly continue their progress across different gaming platforms.
To mitigate the risk of technical challenges and potential disruptions caused by high demand, Digital Extremes adopted a cautious approach, introducing cross-save support in phases. The process involved rolling out the feature to players in batches. However, the latest update brings the news that cross-save functionality is now immediately available to all players who wish to utilize this feature.
The cross-save feature is offered in two variations: account linking and account merging. Account linking is a simpler option, allowing players to designate a primary account and link it to additional accounts on other platforms.
Once linked, the majority of play progress and purchases, with a few exceptions like exclusive cosmetics or premium currency bought on specific platforms, will be accessible regardless of the gaming platform.
On the other hand, account merging is a one-time process that consolidates multiple accounts, along with all associated items, into a single account usable across all platforms.
Notably, Digital Extremes decided to disable account merging for accounts created after November 24, 2023—the formal announcement date of the cross-save process. This decision aims to prevent potential misuse, such as creating multiple accounts to obtain free premium currency and then merging them back into a primary account.
