Rebel Wilson, known for her role as Patricia “Fat Amy” Hobart in the Pitch Perfect trilogy, recently dropped some exciting news about a possible fourth installment. While chatting with BBC Radio 2’s Gaby Roslin, Wilson revealed that plans for Pitch Perfect 4 are in motion, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
The last movie in the franchise hit theaters back in 2017, and fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel ever since.
The musical comedy series, created by Kay Cannon, first premiered in 2012 with Pitch Perfect, followed by Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015 and Pitch Perfect 3 in 2017. Based on Mickey Rapkin’s book of the same name, the films star Wilson alongside Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, John Michael Higgings, and Elizabeth Banks.
Wilson admitted that she’s unsure about the plot of the potential fourth movie but assured fans that it’s in development. “Hopefully there’s a fourth one in the works,” she said. “I mean, I know we’re older now, so I don’t exactly know what the storyline’s going to be. I guess they’ve got to get the script right first, which is the age-old dilemma.”
Reflecting on her time filming the franchise, Wilson expressed her love for the movies and her co-stars, emphasizing that they’re all still close friends. “I absolutely loved making those movies,” she shared. “We’re all still friends, all of us girls – they’re just so joyful. I think what people see on the screen is just us having a laugh.”
While details about Pitch Perfect 4 remain scarce, it’s likely to continue focusing on the adventures of The Barden Bellas, led by Kendrick’s Beca Mitchell. In addition to the potential fourth film, the Pitch Perfect universe expanded with the 2022 TV series, Bumper in Berlin, starring Adam DeVine, Sarah Hyland, Jameela Jamil, and Flula Borg.
Fans eagerly awaiting Pitch Perfect 4 can catch up on the series by streaming Pitch Perfect 3, currently available on Amazon Prime in the U.S.
