Since its launch on Steam early access in February, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor has continued its successful trajectory, with developer Funday Games recently announcing that the auto-shooter has surpassed 1 million copies sold.
Initially, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor reached the milestone of 500,000 copies sold within a week, a feat that surpassed Funday Games’ expectations. The studio expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and acknowledged being fully immersed in enhancing the game.
Currently, the team is gearing up for the release of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor’s first content update on March 20. This update will unveil the Salt Pits, a fourth biome, enabling players to utilize the environment strategically by deploying stalactite clusters to combat swarms of enemy bugs.
Additionally, two new enemy types, Huuli Hoarders and Q’ronar Younglings, will be introduced, with the former rewarding players with valuable minerals upon defeat.
Funday Games anticipates Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor to remain in early access for 6-12 months, during which it plans to introduce further modes, biomes, bosses, and items.
Among the upcoming additions are Biome Mutators, enhancing the challenge in each environment, and an overhaul of the mining robot Bosco, transforming it into an essential component of the game with customizable upgrades.
The fusion of the dwarves-in-space aesthetic and class-based shooting from the original Deep Rock Galactic with the roguelite elements of the acclaimed auto-shooter Vampire Survivors has proven to be a winning formula for Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor.
The franchise’s popularity is on the rise, with Ghost Shit Games announcing earlier this year that Deep Rock Galactic amassed over 2.5 million copies sold in 2023 alone, bringing its lifetime sales to over 8 million.
Moreover, another spin-off titled Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core is in development by Ghost Ship Games. This iteration introduces a roguelite twist to the core mechanics of the original game, where players embark on procedurally generated missions, starting anew each time and progressively collecting resources and upgrades throughout each match. As of now, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core does not have a confirmed release date.
