Microsoft appears to be on the brink of making significant changes to its approach to Xbox console exclusivity. In response to recent speculations, Xbox head Phil Spencer has confirmed an upcoming “business update event” scheduled for next week.
This announcement follows reports suggesting that Microsoft may be contemplating bringing popular titles such as Gears of War, Starfield, and the forthcoming Indiana Jones game to the PlayStation platform.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Spencer shared his intentions and acknowledged the ongoing discussions surrounding these reports. “We’re listening, and we hear you,” he affirmed. “We’ve been planning a business update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox. Stay tuned.”

Earlier today, Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb, a sister site of GameSpot, mentioned that Microsoft was purportedly gearing up to unveil its new game-release strategy by the end of February, with the possibility of an earlier reveal. It appears that this speculation is indeed becoming a reality.
In January, there were separate rumors circulating about potential releases, such as Sea of Thieves making its debut on PlayStation, along with Hi-Fi Rush coming to both PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, a recent leak has added weight to the possibility of Hi-Fi Rush expanding to multiple platforms in the future.
Last year, Spencer discussed exclusivity arrangements on a “case-by-case basis,” particularly before Microsoft’s official acquisition of Activision Blizzard. However, it’s worth noting that the reports thus far haven’t addressed other flagship exclusives from Xbox, such as Halo Infinite or the highly anticipated Avowed.
