WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels recently expressed his apprehensions regarding the potential lure of Hollywood for a rising 28-year-old star from the NXT brand.
Tony D’Angelo, known for his charming portrayal of a mafia boss as the leader of The Family stable, has caught Michaels’ attention with his on-screen charisma.
Set to clash with Ilja Dragunov for the NXT Championship at Stand & Deliver on April 6, 2024, D’Angelo’s performance has garnered praise from Michaels, who commended the star’s dedication to his character.

During an appearance on the Busted Open Radio podcast, Michaels even joked about the possibility of D’Angelo being poached by Hollywood to portray a mob boss in a movie:
“Tony [D’Angelo] is somebody that, from the beginning, he jumped in 110% into that character and has done a fantastic job. I’ve got to be honest, things that worry me about Tony D’Angelo is somebody from Hollywood giving him a call and losing him to play the next mob boss because he does such a fantastic job,”
Michaels said.
Meanwhile, WWE star Kevin Owens has been vocal about his desire for a WrestleMania showdown with Michaels.
Ahead of WrestleMania 40, Owens reiterated his efforts to secure a blockbuster match with the Heartbreak Kid, expressing his persistence despite Michaels’ retirement from in-ring competition.
During an appearance on Fanatics Live stream, Owens shared his ongoing pursuit of Michaels, joking about the difficulty in convincing the Hall of Famer, who recently underwent shoulder surgery, to return for a match:
“I keep bothering Shawn Michaels every year to come back. He just won’t. He’s so nice about it every year. This year, I texted him, he didn’t answer me for two months, and then when he answered me, it was to say, ‘Well, I know I’m a little late, but I just had shoulder surgery, so I don’t think it’s happening.’ You could’ve said no two months ago, you didn’t have to get cut for it,”
Owens quipped.
With Owens set to compete in a triple-threat match for the United States Championship at WrestleMania 40, speculation abounds regarding Michaels’ potential return to the ring for a dream match against Owens.
