As WrestleMania 40 approaches, Roman Reigns faces the looming possibility of losing the WWE Universal Title to Cody Rhodes in a highly anticipated rematch from last year’s Show of Shows.
Despite Rhodes taking the fall in their previous encounter, many fans expected him to challenge The Tribal Chief once again in Philadelphia.
Seth Rollins, the current World Heavyweight Champion on Monday Night RAW, recently shared his perspective on Reigns’ reign and the impact it has on the prestige of the title.
During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Rollins criticized Reigns for not being present enough, asserting that it diminishes the significance of the championship:
“Roman Reigns is working on his own schedule. And in his mind, he thinks that makes the title bigger. And maybe at a time that was the truth, but the problem is Roman Reigns isn’t present, which means his title isn’t present, which means you don’t have a crack at it, which means there’s a glass ceiling, which means the title that he holds isn’t going to be in every town in every city. It’s not there.”
Rollins, a former WWE Champion himself, emphasized the importance of defending the title consistently and being an active champion. He compared Reigns’ approach to a “Hollywood title,” suggesting that it functions more as a prop than a prestigious championship due to its infrequent appearances.
While acknowledging the high-profile nature of Reigns’ title defenses, Rollins argued that the limited opportunities for other top stars, such as Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, and Sheamus, have created a glass ceiling for them.
Reigns has defended the title only three times between last year’s WrestleMania and the upcoming event, with his fourth defense scheduled for the highly anticipated showdown against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.
Bobby Lashley, who experienced a premature disbandment of The Hurt Business, hinted that The Bloodline’s dominance might have influenced the decision to break up his faction.
The prospect of Reigns dropping the WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 40 remains uncertain, but the buildup suggests a significant clash between The Tribal Chief and Cody Rhodes.
