Renowned wrestler and booker Kevin Sullivan recently delved into the distinctions between two iconic wrestling factions, The Bloodline and the New World Order (nWo), in an exclusive interview.
Back in 1996, the wrestling landscape was forever altered when Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall united at WCW Bash at the Beach to form the nWo.
The trio’s alliance sparked a surge in popularity, spawning even a Japanese iteration of the group and boasting a roster of 79 members over its reign from 1996 to 2002.
Drawing from his experience at WCW during the nWo’s zenith, Sullivan credited former WCW President Eric Bischoff for recognizing the potential of the founding nWo members, stating,
“Eric saw it. He had the vision to see it, but he brought the band in. It changed the wrestling business. It was fabulous.”
Critics of the nWo often cite its eventual decline, attributing it to the influx of members diluting its impact. In contrast, The Bloodline, established in 2020, has maintained a lean roster, a strategy Sullivan believes is pivotal to its success:
“Yeah [too many nWo members], I mean, that’s why The Bloodline is so successful. They’ve kept it to four.”
Currently comprising Jimmy Uso, Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and Paul Heyman as special counsel, The Bloodline has garnered acclaim for its tight-knit lineup. Former members include Jey Uso and Sami Zayn.
Sullivan also weighed in on The Rock’s recent involvement with The Bloodline, lauding the wrestler-turned-actor’s 21-minute video elucidating his heel turn and feud with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
Sullivan praised The Rock’s innovative use of social media to engage fans, predicting heightened interest in the storyline:
“It’s a different era, and I understand what they’re going through, but The Rock held you for 21 minutes on that interview. They’re talking people into the building with Cody and Seth and The Bloodline. It’s fabulous.”
With the stage set for an epic showdown at WrestleMania XL on April 6, where Roman Reigns and The Rock will take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, followed by a championship clash between Rhodes and Reigns the next night, anticipation among fans is palpable.
