Rebel Wolves, a studio established by former CD Projekt employees, including “The Witcher 3” game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has officially announced its first game, “Dawnwalker.” This dark fantasy RPG comes after the game’s title was speculated online late last year.
The studio, formed in 2022, initially declared its goal to revolutionize the cRPG genre by focusing on compelling stories and deep emotions. Their first project was described as a “AAA dark fantasy” title, utilizing the Unreal 5 engine, though it remained unnamed at the time.
While details from Rebel Wolves have been sparse, CEO Tomaszkiewicz, who also contributed to “Cyberpunk 2077” at CD Projekt, hinted that “Dawnwalker” might not be as extensive as “The Witcher,” but could potentially have more quests. He compared the game’s scale to “The Witcher 3’s” expansion, “Blood and Wine.”
Speculations about the game intensified towards the end of last year, following various online discoveries by Twitter user Kurakasis, who suggested the project, named “Dawnwalker: Origins,” would be a single-player, open-world RPG for PC and next-gen consoles, potentially the first of a Dawnwalker series.
Confirming the game’s title, “Dawnwalker,” Rebel Wolves broke their usual silence on rumors. Accompanying the confirmation was a piece of concept art showing a warrior descending from the sky. This announcement may indicate a more comprehensive reveal of the project soon.
Rebel Wolves boasts a team with significant industry experience, including narrative director and main writer Jakub Szamałek, design director Daniel Sadowski, animation director Tamara Zawada, and art director Bartłomiej Gaweł. The team members have worked on notable titles like “Cyberpunk,” “Thronebreaker,” “Shadow Warrior 2,” and the “Witcher” series.
