All Elite Wrestling (AEW) recently released multiple talents, mainly from Ring of Honor (ROH). These talents were let go amid budget cuts by other players in industry including WWE.
In light of this strategic adjustment, Eric Bischoff offered his insights during an episode of “83 Weeks,” pointing out a discernible shift in Tony Khan’s business strategy.
Bischoff recalled Khan’s prior assertion that he would never part ways with any talent, finding the recent decision somewhat contradictory but ultimately recognizing its astuteness in hindsight.
“It’s probably a savvy move; perhaps one of the few savvy moves Tony has made recently. The irony is — no disrespect intended — but I haven’t even heard of any of those released talents.”
Despite his critique, Bischoff proceeded to offer some advice to the released talent, suggesting that Khan may have ultimately done them a favor.
“In the words of my newfound mantra: ‘Comfort is a thief.’ It’s easy to become complacent when you’re receiving a paycheck every two weeks without any pressure. However, this comfort also deprives you of opportunities for growth and progress.”
Bischoff then praised Khan for the success of AEW All In 2023, highlighting it as a notable achievement.
He interpreted the recent talent releases as Khan’s first significant strategic business move in recent times.
“I see it as a positive development. It seems to indicate a shift towards fiscal responsibility, emphasizing prudent spending and strategic maneuvering within the industry.”
