Former WWE writer Vince Russo recently shared his thoughts on this week’s WWE Draft. Following the exciting events on SmackDown last week, the Draft Night continued on RAW, spanning six rounds and resulting in numerous superstars being drafted to both brands.
Notably, champions were exempt from the draft, a rule established in the previous week’s announcement.
During a segment on Legion of RAW, Russo expressed skepticism about the significance of the draft, questioning its necessity.
He suggested that WWE should operate with a single roster and release unused talent rather than conducting annual drafts primarily aimed at boosting ratings.
“We had it on Friday night, we had it tonight. Most of the people are staying on the same shows that they were on. The entire Draft is absolutely ridiculous. It should go back to one roster. Eliminate some of the fat, a lot of these people that shouldn’t even be on these shows. Carry storylines through SmackDown and RAW. We just have these absolute useless drafts for them to pop a number every year. I don’t know, do you feel differently than I do?”
With the draft now concluded, the WWE roster has undergone significant changes, including NXT call-ups and notable shifts within the two brands. As the creative team adjusts to these new dynamics, fans eagerly anticipate the development of fresh and engaging storylines.
The reshuffling facilitated by the draft presents an opportunity for WWE to boost audiences with innovative narratives and compelling character arcs, signaling an exciting chapter in professional wrestling.
