Veterans from popular games like World of Warcraft, IMVU, and Star Stable have come together to form a new game studio, Blue Scarab Entertainment, based in Sweden. This new studio is currently developing an innovative project that combines elements of cozy exploration with true crime. Their first game is described as a story-driven MMORPG where players will explore a beautiful open world on horseback while unraveling a dark mystery.
The studio’s introduction on July 17 highlights their ambition to blend cozy exploration with true-crime elements in a unique MMORPG format. Players will navigate the game’s expansive world while solving mysteries, combining the tranquility of horseback exploration with the thrill of uncovering dark secrets.
This new IP is particularly exciting for fans of both horse-themed and horror genres, promising a visually immersive experience created with Unreal Engine 5. The game is expected to feature eerie environments like misty forests and spooky white horses, appealing to a niche audience that appreciates both serene and sinister themes.
Studio director Craig Morrison emphasized the studio’s goal to innovate within the industry by challenging genre expectations. He mentioned the importance of leveraging the team’s diverse skills and experience to push the boundaries of traditional gaming genres and deliver a fresh experience to players.
Blue Scarab has secured over $7 million in seed funding from NetEase and other investors, including Jonas Antonsson, founder of Sable publisher Raw Fury. CEO Colin Cragg, former CEO of Star Stable, expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting NetEase’s commitment to creative freedom and the resources that will aid in realizing their vision.
