Unity is undergoing another major restructuring, leading to the loss of 1,800 jobs. The Verge reports that this move was confirmed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Unity stated that the layoffs are part of its strategy to refocus on core business areas and to position itself for sustainable, profitable growth in the future. Kelly Ekins, Unity’s director of PR, stated,
These layoffs follow Unity’s dismissal of 265 employees last November, which was related to its termination agreement with VFX studio Weta.
The company had previously indicated the possibility of more redundancies in its most recent shareholder letter, where it discussed plans for a “company reset.”
