The Witcher 4 is currently the most advanced project among all the games in development by CD Projekt Red, as revealed by Pawel Sasko, the associate game director of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. During his appearance on the Flow Games podcast, Sasko provided an update on various upcoming CD Projekt Red games, emphasizing that The Witcher 4 is significantly further along in development compared to the others.
This statement aligns with information shared during a CD Projekt investor call in May, which indicated that The Witcher 4 is set to enter production later this year.
Sasko outlined the status of several projects, including The Witcher 1 Remake, Cyberpunk 2, and a spin-off known as Project Sirius, in addition to the new Witcher saga commencing with The Witcher 4. He highlighted that The Witcher 4 is the most advanced among these projects in terms of development progress.
However, Sasko clarified that the term “advanced” refers to the stage of development rather than technological sophistication. CD Projekt Red is still in the early stages of discussing The Witcher 4, which remains more of an internal concept at this point. It is anticipated that other games, such as Cyberpunk 2, which is scheduled for release after The Witcher 4, will showcase more advanced technology.
Sasko also mentioned that the main workforce at CD Projekt Red is focused on The Witcher 4, with over 400 people working on the Polaris project as of May, indicating significant preparations for its production phase.
Additionally, Sasko discussed the collaboration with The Molasses Flood, an indie studio involved in the development of Project Sirius, a project facing some challenges. The Molasses Flood, which joined CD Projekt Red in 2021, is working closely with Sasko in the newly established Boston studio.
This collaboration hints at CD Projekt Red’s efforts to provide extra support and expertise to Project Sirius, which is designed to appeal more to fans of The Witcher Netflix series rather than traditional RPG enthusiasts.
The Witcher 4 is currently the most developed project among CD Projekt Red’s lineup, with significant resources and personnel dedicated to its advancement. While still an internal concept, its production is set to begin later this year, with other projects like Cyberpunk 2 expected to push technological boundaries further.
The collaboration with The Molasses Flood on Project Sirius also reflects CD Projekt Red’s commitment to supporting diverse game projects and broadening their appeal to different audiences.
